PORT HURON, Mich. – Lakeland women's basketball started fast but Mid Michigan College scored 49 points in the second half to earn an 85-76 to close the Skippers Holiday Classic Saturday afternoon.

Lakeland finished the tournament 0-2 as its overall record drops to 7-2 and remains 2-0 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference. Mid Michigan improved to 6-0 on the season.

Calasia Cunningham was on fire for Lakeland from behind the 3-point line as she made 8-of-9 shots behind the arc and finished with 27 points. Ziona Williams finished with 19 points while Delesha Jackson scored 10 points in the loss.

Cunningham nailed four 3-pointers in the opening quarter for 12 points as Lakeland outscored Mid Michigan 21-19 after one. The first quarter was the only quarter where Lakeland outscored Mid Michigan.

Cunningham scored seven in the second quarter but Mid Michigan outscored Lakeland 17-16 but Lakeland held a 37-36 lead at halftime.

Williams put together a good quarter in the third with eight points but Mid Michigan outscored Lakeland 23-16 to take a 59-53 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Lakeland was able to get within 61-60 after a layup made by Destiny Khay with 8:18 left but that would be as close as Lakeland would get as Mid Michigan held on for the nine-point victory.

Lakeland will play its final home game of 2018 on Wednesday, Dec. 5 against Owens Community College at 5:30 p.m. Owens is 5-4 on the season so far and 2-0 in the OCCAC.
