Lakers falter to host Niagara County women, 82-59

SANBORN, N.Y. – Lakeland women's basketball got off to a rough start and never fully recovered in an 82-59 loss to host Niagara County Community College in its final game of the Thunderwolves Classic Sunday afternoon.

With the non-conference loss, Lakeland falls to 9-4 overall and remains at 3-0 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play.

Lakeland had a rough shooting night, only making 18-of-71 shots from the field and 3-of-27 from the 3-point line.

Calasia Cunningham led the Lakers with 16 points while Delesha Jackson was the other player for Lakeland in double figures with 12 points.

Lakeland struggled early on as Niagara County jumped out to a 14-6 lead after a quarter and extended that lead to 40-25 at halftime.

Niagara County outscored Lakeland 22-14 to take a 62-39 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Lakeland did not get outscored in the fourth but Niagara County held on for the 23-point victory.

Lakeland will get a rematch against Niagara County at home on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 1 p.m.
