Lakers drop second straight game to Niagara County, 74-61

KIRTLAND, Ohio – Lakeland women's basketball fell short of beating Niagara County Community College at the end of 2018 and wasn't able to beat Niagara County to start 2019 in a 74-61 loss Saturday afternoon at home.

Lakeland lost its second consecutive game to Niagara County to fall to 9-5 overall but the Lakers remain 3-0 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play.

Delesha Jackson was aggressive all game and led the Lakers with 24 points and added seven rebounds. Alicia Sephus scored 12 points as the only other play to reach double figures and she finished with a double-double with 11 rebounds.

Lakeland started the game cold, making just 4-of-23 from the field including missing all eight 3-point attempts. Jackson and Angel Kingu each scored four but Niagara County led 15-10 after one.

Jackson continued to attack the basket in the second quarter to score seven points as Lakeland chipped away at the Niagara County lead and outscoring the visitors 14-13. Niagara County still led 29-25 at halftime.

Niagara County came out shooting the ball better in the third quarter and outscored Lakeland 24-19. Jackson did add seven points for the Lakers but Lakeland trailed 53-44.

Lakeland was not able to get any 3-point shots to fall in the fourth, missing all six attempts as Niagara County held on for the 13-point victory.

Lakeland will be back home on Wednesday, Jan. 9 at 5:30 p.m. against Bryant & Stratton (OH).
