Lakeland uses balanced scoring to beat Clark State, 72-52

KIRTLAND, Ohio – Lakeland women's basketball outscored visiting Clark State Community College in the first three quarters and used that advantage to earn a 72-52 victory Saturday afternoon.

Destiny Khay and Julie Hajdu each scored 15 points to help Lakeland improve to 11-5 overall and 4-0 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play.

Ziona Williams and Delesha Jackson each added 11 points while Alicia Sephus scored seven points and hauled in 12 rebounds.

Khay got going early in the first quarter with a pair of 3-pointers to help Lakeland out to an 18-13 lead after one quarter. The second quarter was even better for the Khay and the Lakers. Khay added nine points with three more 3-pointers as Lakeland expanded its lead by outscoring Clark State 21-11 to take a 39-24 lead into halftime.

Lakeland showed a bit more balance in the third quarter as Sephus, Hajdu and Selah Richardson each scored five as the Lakers outscored Clark State 19-11 to claim a 58-35 heading into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter was the only period where Clark State outscored Lakeland but it wasn't enough to come all the way back. Clark State made the game a little closer but Lakeland held on for a 20-point victory with four points each from Williams and Hajdu in the final period.

Lakeland will hit the road on Wednesday, Jan. 16 with a game against Cuyahoga Community College at 5 p.m. Cuyahoga is 2-1 in the OCCAC.
