CLEVELAND, Ohio – Lakeland women's basketball used a big second quarter advantage and coasted to a 78-60 victory at Cuyahoga Community College Wednesday night.

Delesha Jackson had it going offensively and finished with a game-high 21 points to help Lakeland improve to 12-5 overall and 5-0 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play. Cuyahoga fell to 2-2 in OCCAC play.

Selah Richardson came off the bench to score 20 points with the help of four made 3-pointers while Destiny Khay also nailed four 3-pointers on her way to finishing with 16 points. Alicia Sephus hauled in 16 rebounds while Ziona Williams captured 10 rebounds.

Jackson scored half of Lakeland's 16 points in the first quarter but the Lakers had trouble making shots from the field. Lakeland only made 7-of-26 shots and found itself tied with Cuyahoga 16-16 after one quarter.

The second quarter made all the difference in the game for Lakeland as the Lakers outscored Cuyahoga 26-9 with the help of 13 points from Richardson. The boost from Richardson was enough to give Lakeland a 42-25 lead at the half.

The rest of the game was fairly equal as Lakeland outscored Cuyahoga in the second half by one total point. Khay got going in the third with all four of her made 3-pointers coming in the period but Lakeland only outscored Cuyahoga 20-19 to take a 62-44 lead into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter was all square at 16-16 and that helped Lakeland cruise to victory as Richardson capped her night with five points in the fourth as the Lakers coasted to the 18-point victory.

Lakeland will hit the road again with it travels to face Edison State Community College on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 1 p.m. Edison State is 4-1 in OCCAC play.
