ELYRIA, Ohio – Lakeland women's basketball used a big second quarter as the difference-maker in a 71-58 victory over Lorain County Community College Wednesday night.

Delesha Jackson made 8-of-14 shots from the field and all six of her free throws to lead the Lakers with 23 points. Behind the efforts of Jackson, Lakeland improved to 13-5 overall and 6-0 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play. Lorain County fell to 2-5 in conference play.

Alicia Sephus contributed 18 points and added eight rebound while Selah Richardson came off the bench to score 12 points in the win.

The game started out pretty equal as both teams scored 15 points in the opening quarter. The second started out pretty equal with the score tied at 22-22 with 4:02 left in the half.

That is when Lakeland closed out the half with nine straight points with the help of four points from Sephus as the Lakers claimed a 31-22 lead at the break. Jackson led Lakeland with 11 points in the first half.

Lakeland was largely able to maintain its lead throughout the second half. The Lakers outscored Lorain County 18-16 in the third and then closed out the fourth by outscoring Lorain County 22-20 to close out the 13-point victory.

Lakeland will return home on Saturday, Jan. 26 with a game against Sinclair Community College at 1 p.m.
