KIRTLAND, Ohio – Lakeland women's basketball led by five heading into the fourth quarter but was outscored 20-8 in the final period as Edison State Community College charged back for a 64-57 victory Saturday afternoon.

Selah Richardson led Lakeland with 15 points and added seven steals in the loss for Lakeland. With the loss, the Lakers fall to 20-8 overall and 12-3 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play. Edison State improved to 11-4 in the OCCAC.

Alicia Sephus scored 13 points and added eight rebounds but fouled out in the fourth quarter. Destiny Khay hit four 3-pointers to finish with 12 points in the loss.

Richardson got started early with eight points in the first quarter while Sephus added seven as Lakeland edged Edison 19-17 after one period.

Khay hit all three of her 3-pointers shot in the second period as the Lakers were able to extended their lead after outscoring Edison State 14-11 to take a 33-28 lead into halftime.

Both team traded baskets in the third quarter as Sephus paced Lakeland with six points but both Lakeland and Edison State scored 16-16 points in the third. Lakeland held a 49-44 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The fourth is where the wheels came off for Lakeland as the Lakers hit just 3-of-19 shots for 15.8 percent and scored eight points. Edison State took advantage and outscored Lakeland 20-8 in the final period to steal a seven-point victory.

Lakeland will next travel to face No. 17 Sinclair Community College on Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m. for the final game of the regular season. Sinclair is currently 12-2 in OCCAC play.
