Lakers unable to recover from slow start in loss to Sinclair, 68-56

DAYTON, Ohio – Lakeland women's basketball was outscored in each of the first three quarters and was unable to recover in a 68-56 loss to Sinclair Community College Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Lakers finish the regular season with a 20-9 overall record and 12-4 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play. Sinclair finishes with a 14-2 record in the OCCAC.

Ziona Williams led Lakeland with 19 points and five steals while Alicia Sephus recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

Lakeland got off to a slow start and fell behind Sinclair 16-11 after one quarter and the second quarter was rough as well. Sinclair outscored the Lakers 23-12 in the second to take a 39-23 lead into halftime.

Lakeland kept the third quarter closer as was only outscored 17-11 but trailed 56-34 heading into the final quarter.

Lakeland did put together a solid quarter in the fourth and outscored Sinclair by 10 points but it wasn't enough to come all the way back as Sinclair held on for the 12-point victory.

Lakeland will next play in the NJCAA Region XII District I semifinal against Edison State Community College at 3 p.m. at Ohio Christian University in Circleville on Friday, March 8 at 3 p.m.
