Late goal by Maria Sill gives Lakeland first conference victory over Ancilla, 1-0

KIRTLAND, Ohio – Maria Sill (Geneva) was determined to not let the Lakeland women's soccer game go into overtime as she scored in the final 20 seconds to give the Lakers a 1-0 victory over Ancilla College Saturday afternoon.

The victory was the first-ever Region XII victory for Lakeland women's soccer as its conference record improved to 1-4. The Lakers overall record improves to 2-6-1.

Sill was able to score her goal in the 89th minute thanks to a beautifully placed assist from Samantha Parmertor (Madison) to get the win.

Erica Wayts (Painesville) was able to make six saves to earn the shutout victory in goal.

Lakeland did have more chances to score as the Lakers lead in shots 17-9.

Lakeland will next travel to face Cincinnati State Technical & CC on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m.
