Maria Sill scores twice but Lakeland ties with Ancilla, 2-2

DONALDSON, Ind. – Lakeland women's soccer was able to pick up two goals from Maria Sill (Geneva) but Ancilla College scored the final five minutes of regulation to force overtime and an eventual 2-2 tie after two overtime periods Sunday afternoon.

With the tie, Lakeland's overall record moves to 2-8-2 and its Region XII record moves to 1-5-1, slightly ahead of Ancilla at 0-6-1.

Sill was able to score in the first half on a penalty kick and then add another goal in the second half for a 2-1 lead. Cayleigh Megyesi (Concord) assisted on the second goal.

The lone goal in the first half was on the Sill penalty kick as the Lakers held a 1-0 lead at the half.

Ancilla tied up the game quickly in the second half and then Sill gave Lakeland the lead again after taking a pass from Megyesi and burying the ball into the net for a 2-1 lead.

That lead would not hold up as Ancilla scored in the 84th minute to level the game at 2-2 and it would remain that score after regulation and two overtime periods.

Lakeland will look for a win at home on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 4 p.m. against Mercyhurst North East. The Lakers beat Mercyhurst North East 8-0 on Sept. 5 in North East, Pa.
