Lakeland honors its sophomores before beating Mercyhurst North East, 3-0

KIRTLAND, Ohio – Lakeland women's soccer honored sophomores Liz Serago (Euclid) and Macie Miechowicz (Madison) before taking on Mercyhurst North East and the Lakers pulled off a 3-0 victory to cap the day Wednesday afternoon.

With the win, Lakeland improves to 3-8-2 overall and remains 1-5-1 in Region XII play.

Maria Sill (Geneva) was able to score a goal in each half and added an assist in the win. Briana Paulett (Lyndhurst) scored the second goal for the Lakers. Serago and Xochil Arcos Arredondo (Painesville) each had an assist in the win.

Lakeland started scoring early on as Serago found Sill in the ninth minute and Sill turned around to bury the first goal of the game.

Six minutes later, Paulett took a pass from Sill and scored in the 15th minute to give Lakeland a 2-0 lead that would hold up until halftime.

Scoring slowed down a bit but Sill was able to score once more as she took a pass from Arredondo in the 57th minute and scored for a 3-0 lead, that would turn out to be the final score.

Erica Wayts (Painesville) was able to make one save to earn the shutout victory as Lakeland fired 33 total shots with 19 being on goal while Mercyhurst North East only had two shots with one being on goal.

Lakeland will look to keep winning with a home game on Friday, Oct. 12 against Schoolcraft College at 1 p.m.
