Late goal by Maria Sill gives Lakeland a victory over Lorain County, 2-1

ELYRIA, Ohio – Lakeland women's soccer got a late goal from Maria Sill (Geneva) to secure a 2-1 victory over Lorain County Community College Wednesday afternoon.

With the win, Lakeland's overall record improves to 4-9-2 and its Region XII remains at 1-5-1.

Sill may have scored the game-winner but Cayleigh Megyesi (Concord) assisted on game winner and scored the opening goal to leave her imprint on the victory. Samantha Parmertor (Madison) assisted on the first goal.

Lakeland got off to a great start as Parmertor found Megyesi in the seventh minute for a goal and a 1-0 lead. That lead would not hold up until halftime as Lorain County scored in the 43rd minute to tie the game at 1-1 just before halftime.

Only one team scored in the second half and that goal came from Lakeland's Sill in the 71st minute after an assist from Megyesi for a 2-1 lead that turned out to be the game winner.

Erica Wayts (Painesville) made five saves and allowed just one goal for the victory in net.

Lakeland will finish up the season with a home game against Jackson College on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 3 p.m.
