Lakers lack teamwork on the court but still sweep Cuyahoga, 3-0

HIGHLAND HILLS, Ohio – Lakeland Community College volleyball didn't put together its best match but overcame a lack of teamwork to sweep Cuyahoga Community College 3-0 Wednesday evening by the score of 25-21, 26-24 and 25-21.

The most important aspect of the match was the final result as the Lakers improved to 3-0 overall and in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference.

Morgan Smart led the way on offense with 11 kills while Brittney O'Hara was a force on defense with 16 digs.

The Lakers didn't come out with the best energy for the away match but was still able to capture the first set 25-21. The second set was even closer as it went into extra points but Lakeland came out on top 26-24 to take a 2-0 lead in sets.

Lakeland played marginally better in the third set to close out the sweep with a 25-21 victory to open the season with a three-game winning streak.

Lakeland will next participate in the 2017 Owens Express Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Starting on Friday, Sept. 1, the Lakers face Glen Oaks Community College at 10 a.m. and then Lansing Community College at 1:30 p.m.
