PERRYSBURG, Ohio – Lakeland Community College volleyball did not get out to the hot start that it wanted as the Lakers dropped matches to Glen Oaks Community College and Lansing Community College to open the 2017 Owens Express Invitational Friday afternoon.

The Lakers were swept by Glen Oaks 3-0 by the score 25-23, 25-13 and 25-22. Lakeland managed a game against Lansing but still fell 3-1 by the score of 25-21, 19-25, 25-21 and 26-24. The pair of losses drops the Lakers to 3-2 overall but they remain 3-0 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference.

Glen Oaks 3 – Lakeland 0

Lakeland made too many blocking and hitting errors and it cost the opening match at the Owens Invite. The Lakers played well enough to win a set in the first and third sets, scoring 23 and 22, respectively. The second set was a rough one for the Lakers in the loss, as they only scored 13 points.

Lansing 3 – Lakeland 1

Lakeland played better in its second match and came back to win the second set after dropping the first to level the match at 1-1. It was Lansing that was able to finish strong and close out the match with two straight sets to beat the Lakers.

Defensively, the Lakers are still playing solid but offensive mistakes are hurting Lakeland. Morgan Smart has been consistent on offense in this tournament while Brittney O'Hara has played consistently great early on in the season.

The Lakers will have the opportunity to level off their record in the tournament with two more matches on Saturday, Sept. 2. Lakeland will begin play at noon against Oakland Community College and finished up the tournament against Kellogg Community College a 1:30 p.m.
