PERRYSBURG, Ohio – Lakeland Community College volleyball showed improvement in the second day of the 2017 Owens Express Invitational but still lost a pair of matches to close out the tournament Saturday afternoon.
The Lakers fell to Oakland Community College 3-2 by the score of 25-17, 18-25, 17-25, 25-22 and 15-17 and then lost to Kellogg Community College 3-0 by the score of 21-25, 19-25 and 22-25. After the pair of losses today, Lakeland finished the Owens Invite 0-4 and are now 3-4 overall but still 3-0 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play.

After making some changes to help out the blocking at the net, Lakeland showed improvement over the matches from the previous day but still lost a tight match in five sets.
"With the changes we are making, we will be taking advantage of practice time to get ready for the next match," said Russ Miozzi, Lakeland head volleyball coach.
The Lakers split the first two sets with Oakland and the fifth set couldn't have been much closer. Oakland was able to come away with the pivotal points in the final set to seal a 3-2 victory with a 17-15 win in the final set.
Kellogg 3 – Lakeland 0
The Lakers kept it close in every set against Kellogg but fell 3-0 in the tournament finale. Lakeland scored 21 points in the first set, 19 in the second and played its best set in the third with 22 points, coming just short of forcing a fourth set and keeping the set alive.
Lakeland will play in its first home game of the season when the Lakers host Owens Community College on Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 6 p.m.
