Lakers swept at home by Sinclair, 3-0

KIRTLAND, Ohio – Lakeland Community College volleyball was unable to sweep the season series with Sinclair Community College as the Lakers were swept 3-0 Saturday afternoon by the score 25-22, 25-15 and 36-34.

With the loss, the Lakers fall to 6-8 overall and 4-2 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference.

Cary Morin led Lakeland with 15 kills and added 20 digs. Krista Curtis added nine kills while Brittney O'Hara led with 33 digs. Caitlin Cipriano led the Lakers with 20 assists while Morgan Smart added 12 assists and four kills.

Lakeland dug itself a hole in the opening set as Morin was able to get a kill late in the set but Sinclair led 23-14. The Lakers were able to manufacture a run of scoring eight of the next nine points that was capped with a kill from Morin to get within 24-22. Sinclair was able to get a kill to take the first set 25-22.

Lakeland was able to keep the second set close at the beginning as Smart delivered a kill to get within 13-10. Unfortunately, the Lakers would only score two more points in the set as Sinclair grabbed a 2-0 set lead with a 25-15 victory.

Lakeland put in a lot of fight in the third set to attempt to force a fourth and it took extra points to settle the third set. Sinclair was able to pull out the 36-34 victory in the third set to secure the sweep.

Lakeland will look to bounce back from the loss on Wednesday, Sept. 20 with a home conference match against Columbus State Community College at 6 p.m.
