Lakers use consistent play to sweep Hocking on the road, 3-0

NELSONVILLE, Ohio - Cutting down on mistakes and getting a more consistent performance helped Lakeland Community College volleyball to secure a 3-0 sweep over Hocking College by the score of 25-18, 25-19 and 25-20 Friday night. 

With the win, the Lakers improve to 7-9 overall and 5-3 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference. 

Lauryn Mitchell put together possible her best match of the season by adding 10 kills and seven blocks in three sets. Morgan Smart added eight kills and eight digs. Caitlin Cipriano led Lakeland with 29 assists while Brittney O'Hara led with 18 digs. 

Lakeland started out strong with 13 kills in the opening set, with five of those coming from Mitchell as the Lakers grabbed the first set 25-18. Lakeland matched the first set with 13 kills in the second as Smart got going in the second with four kills and the Lakers grabbed a 2-0 set lead with a 25-19 victory. 

The third set was a little more sloppy as Lakeland only earned nine kills but it was enough to earn the sweep with a 25-20 victory. 

Lakeland will next take part in the 2017 Raider Challenge in Grand Rapids, Mich. starting on Saturday, Sept. 30 with a pair of matches. The Lakers will begin with St. Clair County Community College at 2 p.m. and then finish the day against Mott Community College at 6 p.m.
