Lakers dominate in two matches at Beaver County quad match

MONACA, Pa. – Lakeland Community College volleyball didn't lose a single set in two matches against Harford Community College and the host Community College of Beaver County in a quad match held Saturday afternoon.

The Lakers beat Harford 3-0 by the score 25-14, 25-16 and 25-19 and then swept Beaver County by the score 25-2, 25-7 and 25-7. With the pair of wins, Lakeland improves to 11-12 overall and is currently 6-3 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference.

Lakeland 3 – Harford 0

Lakeland volleyball was able to work on a lot of tactics that it would use in upcoming matches in a sweep of Harford.

Cary Morin led the Lakers with 10 kills and 10 digs while Lauryn Mitchell added nine kills and seven blocks. Caitlin Cipriano led the team with 32 assists while Brittney O'Hara led the Lakers with 24 digs.

Lakeland had 13 kills in the opening set and five of those kills came from Morin for a 25-14 victory in the first. The second set was the best one for the Lakers with 17 kills as Krista Curtis had a big set with five kills and Lakeland took a 2-0 lead with a 25-16 victory.

The Lakers closed out the match in the third set with 13 kills as a team as Mitchell stepped up for five kills to seal the win with a 25-19 win.

Lakeland 3 – Beaver County 0

Lakeland had a completely dominate effort against Beaver County and only allowed Beaver County to score 16 total points in three sets in a sweep.

Iesha Niciu led Lakeland with 14 kills in the match and added six blocks while Morin added 10 kills and eight digs. Cipriano dished out 27 assists while O'Hara earned 16 digs in the win.

Lakeland dominated right from the beginning and only allowed two points in the opening set as Niciu had five kills in the first set victory. The Lakers took a 2-0 lead after taking the second set 25-7 behind 12 team kills as Niciu and Morin each had four kills in the set.

Lakeland didn't waste any time putting the match away with a 25-7 win in the third behind 13 kills as a team as Niciu finished with five of those 13 kills to close out the match.

Lakeland now only has conference matches remaining as it travels to face No. 1 Owens Community College on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 6 p.m.
