KIRTLAND, Ohio – Lakeland Community College volleyball is on a roll and secured its third consecutive 3-0 sweep with a victory over Clark State Community College by the score 25-21, 25-21 and 25-16 Friday night.

With the win, the Lakers improve to 14-13 overall and 9-4 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference.

Lakeland used a balanced effort and was led in kills by Lauryn Mitchell with 12 kills and she added three blocks. Krista Curtis added nine kills and two blocks. Caitlin Cipriano handed out 36 assists while Brittney O'Hara earned 24 digs in the victory.

Both teams started out fairly even but it was Lakeland creating a little distance between Clark State with a kill from Iesha Niciu for a 13-9 lead. Morgan Smart had a strong serve working the latter part of the opening set and added three consecutive aces for a 19-10. Niciu delivered the set-winning kill for a 25-21 victory in the first.

Clark State kept the second set close as Lakeland inched ahead 14-12 after a block from Niciu. The Lakers followed by claiming six of the next seven points to take a 20-13 lead after a kill from Curtis. Clark State made it look a little closer but Niciu closed out the set with a kill for a 25-21 victory and a 2-0 lead in sets.

Clark State appeared determined to force a fourth set and jumped out a 9-8 lead. Lakeland did bounce back and grab a 16-12 lead following a kill from Curtis. Clark State only scored four more points the rest of the way as Mitchell closed out the match with a kill to win 25-16 to secure the sweep.

Lakeland will play its final regular season home game on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 11 a.m. against Edison Community College. The game will be the final home game for six sophomores and it is also the Cancer Awareness game for the Lakers.
