Spearheaded by the efforts of sophomores Caitlin Cipriano and Cary Morin, Lakeland Community College volleyball raised $456.50 during its cancer awareness match Saturday, Oct. 21.

Saturday against Edison Community College, the Lakers wore pink warm-up shirts, which were later auctioned off in a silent auction. Money raised from the auction and that which was donated during the game was given to the Lake Health/University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center in Mentor.

The match also served as the final home game for six sophomores. The six sophomores that were honored were Morin, Cipriano, Brittney O'Hara, Allie Lister, Krista Curtis and Tamea Scott.

The cancer awareness game was one of Lakeland's 50 Acts of Service. Lakeland faculty, staff, administrators and students will give back to the community by participating in 50 volunteer community service projects throughout the year – one for every year of the college's existence. The intention is to complete projects of the size and scope that have a long-term or lasting impact on our community.
