Lakeland’s Iesha Niciu named OCCAC volleyball player of the week

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) Players of the Week for women's volleyball (Oct. 16-22) are Iesha Niciu (D-II) of Lakeland Community College and Columbus State Community College's Alaina Monroe (D-III).

Niciu, a freshman middle blocker from Ashtabula attacked .479 with 4.78 kills per set offensively while putting up a whopping 3.5 blocks per set on the defensive side. She helped push the Lakers to three sweeps over conference opponents last week.

Niciu opened up with 15 kills and a .483 hitting percentage and 13 blocks against Lorain County Community College on Oct. 18. Following a solid performance against Clark State Community College on Oct. 20, Niciu exploded for another double-double (20 kills and 17 blocks) in a victory over Edison State Community College on Oct. 21. She earned kills on 20-of-24 attempts with four errors against Edison, good for a .667 attacking efficiency.

In 25 games this season, Niciu is second on the team with 263 kills and first on the team with 192 blocks.
