Lakers secure postseason spot after beating Edison State on the road, 3-1

PIQUA, Ohio - Lakeland Community College volleyball secured a postseason spot after beating Edison State Community College 3-1 Friday night by the score of 25-22, 10-25, 25-22 and 26-24. 

With the win, the Lakers improve to 16-13 overall and 11-4 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference. Lakeland has now won five consecutive matches and eight of its last nine. 

Iesha Niciu led the Lakers with 21 kills and 10 blocks. Cary Morin added 17 kills and 13 digs. Caitlin Cipriano dised out 41 assists while Brittney O'Hara earned 48 digs in the victory. 

Each set that Lakeland won was extremely close and the first set proved to be just the beginning as the Lakers tallied 17 kills. Niciu earned seven kills and three blocks as Lakeland claimed the first set 25-22. The second set was forgettable as Edison battled back to win the second set 25-10 to tie the match. 

Lakeland was able to bounce back in the third set and earned 19 kills as a team, led by seven from Niciu to claim a 25-22 victory in the third to take a 2-1 lead. The Lakers had to put in the work in the fourth set to avoid a fifth and it took 21 kills as a team and again Niciu had seven kills in the set. Lakeland was able to seal the 3-1 victory with a 26-24 win in the fourth.
