Lakers cap regular season with a sweep of Clark State, 3-0

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Lakeland Community College volleyball capped the regular with a 3-0 sweep of Clark State Community College and a six-game winning streak Saturday morning. 

The Lakers won by the score 25-19, 25-18 and 25-17 to secure the sweep and improve to a 17-13 overall record and 12-4 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference. Lakeland has now 18 of its last 19 sets to close out the regular season. 

Iesha Niciu had another big match against Clark State with 19 kills and five blocks. Cary Morin added nine kills and eight digs. Caitlin Cipriano dished out 28 assists while Brittney O'Hara finished with 19 digs defensively. 

The first set was the closest set for Lakeland as the Lakers earned 16 kills as a team while Niciu added six kills on her own. Behind Niciu, Lakeland claimed the first set 25-19. The Lakers got progressively better as the match went on as they earned 18 kills as a team in the second as Niciu killed 10 points. Lakeland grabbed a 2-0 lead in sets with a 25-18 win. 

The Lakers didn't want to extend the road trip into a fourth set and came out with 15 kills as a team as Morin, Niciu and Krista Curtis each had three kills. Lakeland was able to secure the sweep with a 25-17 victory in the third. 

Lakeland will next play in the NJCAA Region XII tournament in Port Huron, Mich. hosted by St. Clair County Community College begining on Thursday, Nov. 2.
