Mott sends Lakeland to NJCAA District E consolation with a sweep, 3-0

PORT HURON, Mich. – Lakeland Community College volleyball kept each set competitive but Mott Community College was able to win three straight sets to earn the 3-0 sweep by the score of 25-22, 25-20 and 25-20 Friday night in the NJCAA District E Tournament.

With the loss, the Lakers fall to 18-14 overall and next play in the consolation bracket. Lakeland will have a rematch against Oakland Community College Saturday, Nov. 3 at 11 a.m.

Iesha Niciu led the way for Lakeland with 15 kills and seven blocks while Lauryn Mitchell finished with six kills and six blocks. Caitlin Cipriano dished out 30 assists while Brittney O'Hara earned 16 digs in the loss.

The first set was the best for Lakeland as it earned 14 kills but fell 25-22. Mott took the second set 25-20 as the Lakers earned 11 kills with five of them coming from Niciu.

Niciu had five kills in each set but Lakeland was unable to stop the Mott momentum as the Lakers were unable to avoid the sweep and lost 25-20, despite 12 team kills in the final set.
