Lakers drop conference match against Owens, 3-0

PERRYSBURG, Ohio – Lakeland volleyball started out good but dropped the first set and was eventually swept 3-0 by Owens Community College Wednesday night by the score 25-20, 25-13 and 25-12.

After the loss, Lakeland falls to 1-7 overall and 1-3 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference.

Lakeland was led by Morgan Smart (Perry) with 10 kills and 10 digs in the loss. Erynn Daubenmire (Willoughby) notched six kills on a .286 hitting percentage while Olivia Scott (Willoughby) handed out 22 assists.

The Lakers started out solid enough with 11 kills in the opening set to only four errors for a .280 hitting percentage but Owens claimed the first set and followed that that winning the following two sets for the sweep.

Lakeland will be back home on Friday, Sept. 7 for the 2018 Shannon Lee McBride Memorial Tournament for two matches. The first match will be at 2 p.m. against Mercyhurst North East and the second match of the day will be against Mott Community College at 6 p.m.
