Lakeland breaks losing skid after sweeping Hocking, 3-0

NELSONVILLE, Ohio – Lakeland volleyball was able to break out of a losing streak after sweeping Hocking College 3-0 by the score of 25-5, 25-11 and 25-6 Friday evening.

With the win, the Lakers improve to 3-12 overall and 2-5 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play.

Morgan Smart (Perry) and Lela Mekruit (Willoughby Hills) both had a team-high seven kills while Olivia Scott (Willoughby) dished out 21 assists in the win.

Serving was a big reason the Lakers were able to come out on top as Lakeland served a total of 29 service aces. Erynn Daubenmire (Eastlake), Stephanie Chait (Brooklyn) and Scott each had six service aces.

Lakeland came out big to start the match and only allowed five points in a landslide victory as the Lakers used that momentum for the sweep.

Lakeland will next play at Columbus State Community College on Saturday, Sept. 22 beginning at 11 a.m.
