Lakers swept by Columbus State on the road, 3-0

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Lakeland volleyball made fewer mistakes the second time playing Columbus State Community College but still lost 3-0 Saturday afternoon by the score 25-19, 25-14 and 25-10.

With the loss, Lakeland falls to 3-13 overall and 2-6 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play.

The Lakers were led by Morgan Smart (Perry) with 13 kills and 13 digs in the loss. Erynn Daubenmire (Eastlake) earned seven kills and 13 digs. Olivia Scott (Willoughby) dished out 22 assists while McKenzie Kovach (Mentor) earned 12 digs from the libero position.

Lakeland started off the match strong and scored 19 points in the opening set. Columbus still was able to claim the first set 25-19 and improved each set in the sweep.

Lakeland will next travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. for the 2018 Raider Challenge. The Lakers will open the tournament with a match on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. against Alpena Community College and close the day with a match against Henry Ford College at 6 p.m.
