Lakers start fast but lose to Cuyahoga, 3-1

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ohio – Lakeland volleyball started fast by claiming the first set but Cuyahoga Community College won the following three to earn a 3-1 victory by the score 19-25, 25-16, 25-11 and 25-23 Wednesday night.

With the loss, Lakeland's overall record falls to 4-17 overall and 2-7 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference.

Lakeland was led by Morgan Smart (Perry) with 18 kills and she added 10 digs. Erynn Daubenmire (Eastlake) added 15 kills in the loss. Olivia Scott (Willoughby) dished out 35 assists and added 10 digs while McKenzie Kovach (Mentor) led the Lakers with 15 digs.

Lakeland started fast in the first set with 14 kills as a team to only seven errors as the Lakers took the opening set 25-19 but that would be the final time Lakeland would see success.

Cuyahoga ran off three straight sets to claim the 3-1 victory.

Lakeland will take a couple weeks off and then face Lorain County Community College on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 6 p.m.
