KIRTLAND, Ohio – Lakeland volleyball showed improvement from previous matches but the Lakers were swept in both matches of a doubleheader against Edison State Community College Friday evening.
Lakeland lost the first match 25-19, 25-23 and 25-20 for the first sweet and lost the second 25-14, 25-16 and 25-15.
Following the pair of losses, Lakeland's overall record fell to 4-21 and its Ohio Community College Athletic Conference record drops to 2-11.
Edison State 3 – Lakeland 0 (First Match)
Lakeland scored above 20 in two of the three sets but Edison State was able to finish off the sweep in the opening match.
Erynn Daubenmire (Eastlake) had a big game with 18 kills to lead Lakeland. Morgan Smart (Perry) added seven kills and 14 digs while Olivia Scott (Willoughby) dished out 13 assists in the loss. Stephanie Chait (Brooklyn) earned 10 digs in the opening game.
Lakeland started strong and scored 19 points as Daubenmire had seven kills in the opening set but Edison State won 25-19. The Lakers had their best chance at a set in the second but Edison State storm back to win 25-23.
Lakeland scored 20 in the third set but Edison State found just enough to get the 25-20 win to secure the sweep.
Edison State 3 – Lakeland 0 (Second Match)
Lakeland put up a fight in the second match but Edison State secured another 3-0 sweep to sweep the doubleheader as well.
Smart led the Lakers with 10 kills and 22 digs. Daubenmire added seven kills and 11 digs while Scott dished out 18 assists and added 13 digs. Chait reached double figures with 10 kills in the loss.
Lakeland grabbed momentum at times in the second match but the most momentum came in the second set. Daubenmire hit four kills in the second set but Edison State took a 2-0 lead with a 25-16 victory. Edison State secured the sweep with a 25-15 victory in the third.
Lakeland will play its final home games of the season on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 11 a.m. with a doubleheader against Clark State Community College.
