Lakeland sweeps Clark State in final home games of the season

KIRTLAND, Ohio – Lakeland volleyball closed out its final home matches by beating Clark State Community College in two consecutive matches Saturday afternoon.

Lakeland opened with a 3-0 sweep by the score 25-18, 25-11 and 25-16 and then won the second match 3-1 by the score 25-20, 18-25, 26-24 and 25-19.

With the pair of victories, Lakeland improves to 6-21 overall and 4-11 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play.

Lakeland 3 – Clark State 0

Lakeland broke a six-match losing streak by sweeping Clark State in the opening match as it used a 17 kill and 11 dig performance by Morgan Smart (Perry) to get the win.

Erynn Daubenmire (Eastlake) was closed behind with 15 kills while Olivia Scott (Willoughby) dished out 30 assists.

Lakeland grabbed momentum early on with a 25-18 victory to open the set and carried that momentum over in the following two sets to earn the sweep.

Lakeland 3 – Clark State 1

Lakeland wasn't able to sweep both matches as Clark State took the second set but the Lakers recovered to win the third and fourth sets to get the 3-1 win.

Daubenmire was on a roll in the second match with 24 kills and six digs while Smart was close behind with 19 kills and added 15 digs.

Scott added 31 assists and 17 digs while Lela Mekruit (Willoughby Hills) reached double figures with 11 digs.

Lakeland started fast with 14 kills in a 25-20 victory but Clark State came back to win the second 25-18 to tie the match 1-1.

The third set was the most competitive as Lakeland was able to narrowly earn a 26-24 victory to take a 2-1 lead. The Lakers kept the momentum for a 25-19 victory in the fourth to claim the win.

Lakeland will finish out the season with a road trip to face Sinclair Community College on Monday, Oct. 29 at 6 p.m.
