Lakeland student-athletes garner 26 OCCAC All-Academic certificates

Lakeland Community College student-athletes earned 26 Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) All-Academic certificates during the 2023 fall semester. The certificates were spread across all eight Lakeland athletic programs, including 24 individuals.

Each semester the OCCAC recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a 3.30 grade-point average (GPA) or higher with 12 completed credit hours during the semester. The conference also extends special recognition to those who achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA during the semester.

The Lakeland baseball team garnered eight All-Academic certificates, the most among the college's eight programs. Among the honorees were Anthony Barbosa, Julien Bourgeois, Seth Cervello, Jose Fichera, Aaron Gillespie, Ryan Mengelkamp, Lucas Nichols and Stephen Osowski.

Lakeland women’s soccer collected four honorees, including Shelby NagyLayla Von Berndt and perfect 4.0 GPA designations from Lillyan Agostine and Gabrielle Carley.

The Lakeland men’s basketball, men’s soccer and softball teams each tallied three honorees. Representing men’s basketball were Ben HamiltonAdam Williams and Jareon Mayo. Mayo was also noted for having a perfect 4.0 GPA during the semester. Ruach Deng, Michael Klein and Daniel Koba were named award winners from the men’s soccer team, while Abigail Haydu, Reagan Hayes and Lillyan Agostine represented the softball team.

Lakeland volleyball registered a pair of certificates from Rebecca Ferrell and Avrie Shenkel, while Carly James and Layla Von Berndt collected certificates as members of the women’s basketball team. Rounding out the 24 award winners was Jama Lempe from Lakeland's esports program.
