DOBSON, N.C. – Lakeland baseball had a tough time getting any offense going and was outscored 20-2 in a doubleheader loss to Surry Community College and Potomac State College of WVU Saturday afternoon.

With the pair of losses to open the season, Lakeland falls to 0-2 overall.

Surry 7 – Lakeland 2

Lakeland dug itself an early 3-0 hole and was not able to recover in a 7-2 loss to Surry.

Kyle Espineli hit a pair of singles and brought in one of the two runs while Osvoldo Balbuena hit a double and a single while bringing in the other run. Mike Zeuli hit a single for Lakeland as the Lakers only earned five hits.

Surry scored twice in the second and once in the third to take a 3-0 lead. Lakeland did all of its scoring in the fourth as Espineli belted an RBI single and Balbuena drilled an RBI double to get the Lakers within 3-2 but that would be the final time touching the plate for Lakeland. Surry scored two runs in the fifth and sixth to put the game away.

Potomac State of WVU 13 – Lakeland 0

Lakeland could only get two hits in a 13-0 loss to Potomac State of WVU to close the doubleheader. Brendon Perez and Mike Zeuli were the only two players with a single for the Lakers.

Errors were a problem for Lakeland as only four of the 13 runs allowed were earned. Potomac State of WVU scored two in the second, six in the third and five in the fifth to end the game early.

Lakeland will face Surry again on Sunday, March 3 at 2 p.m. in North Carolina.
