KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Lakeland baseball bounced back from a 7-0 loss in the opening game against Minnesota West Community & Technical College to get a 15-4 win Saturday afternoon.
After the split of the doubleheader, Lakeland's record moved to 1-3 overall.
Minnesota West 7 – Lakeland 0
Lakeland could only manage four hits in the opening game as Minnesota West won 7-0.
Matt Detering hit a pair of singles while Riley Grieco and Max Von Gemmingen each hit a single for the Lakers in the loss.
Minnesota West scored two in the first, one in the third and two each in the fourth and sixth innings to get the win.
Lakeland 15 – Minnesota West 4
Lakeland did much better on offense by pounding out 13 hits and scored 15 runs, including nine runs in the sixth to pull out a 15-4 victory for the first win of the season over Minnesota West.
Tyler Knapp belted a single, double and triple to bring in five of the 15 runs. Cole Wajda had only one hit but brought in three runs in the win. Grieco and Zac Sabol each had two RBIs while Detering, Seth France and Osvoldo Balbuena each brought in a run for Lakeland.
Zach Straley started the game and pitched 3 2-3 innings and gave up only two earned runs in the no decision while striking out seven. Jason Byler came on in relief and pitched 3 1-3 innings and gave up one earned and struck out two to get the win.
Lakeland will two games on Sunday, March 10. The Lakers will first face Heartland Community College at 9:30 a.m. and then face Lincoln Land Community College at 1 p.m.
