Lakers unable to score in doubleheader loss to Owens, 5-0 and 8-0

PERRYSBURG, Ohio – Lakeland baseball had chances to score in both games against Owens Community College but was unable to get a run across in losses by the score of 5-0 and 8-0 Saturday afternoon.

With the losses, Lakeland falls to 1-15 overall and 0-2 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play.

Owens 5 – Lakeland 0

Lakeland had four hits in the opening game and held Owens scoreless for the first four innings but was unable to score in a 5-0 loss to open the doubleheader.

Collin Witherspoon, Mike Zeuli, Osvoldo Balbuena and Tyler Knapp each hit singles in the loss.

Brendon Perez pitched well enough to win the game in most games by going six innings and allowing four earned runs while striking out three in the loss.

Owens scored four in the fifth and one in the sixth to pull out a 5-0 victory.

Owens 8 – Lakeland 0

Lakeland only gave up runs in one inning but Owens scored eight in that one inning to earn an 8-0 victory over the Lakers.

Tony Miller hit a pair of singles while Zac Sabol hit a double in the loss. Matt Detering, Kyle Espineli and Max Von Gemmingen each had a single in the second game.

Lakeland will play another doubleheader at Owens on Sunday, March 24 beginning at noon.
