Lakers held scoreless in doubleheader loss to Potomac State, 10-0 and 10-0

KEYSER, W.V. – Lakeland baseball had chances but was unable to score in a doubleheader loss to Potomac State College of WVU by the scores of 10-0 and 10-0 Tuesday afternoon.

With the pair of losses, Lakeland falls to 2-18 overall and stays at 1-3 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play.

Potomac State 10 – Lakeland 0

Lakeland was able to get three hits in the opening game but Potomac State jumped ahead early to grab the 10-0 victory in five innings.

All three hits for Lakeland were extra-base hits as Matt Detering hit two doubles and Collin Witherspoon hit a double for the Lakers.

Potomac State scored two in the first, five in the second and single runs in the third, fourth and fifth to end the game early.

Potomac State 10 – Lakeland 0

Lakeland was able to stretch the game out an additional inning in the second game but it was Potomac State winning 10-0 in six innings to complete the sweep.

Juan Guerrero, Max Von Gemmingen and Detering each hit a single in the loss.

Bryan Dembie did not give up an earned run in three innings for Lakeland as errors hurt in the tough-luck loss. Michael Sapp pitched a scoreless fifth for Lakeland.

Potomac got going with four in the second inning and single runs in the third and fourth innings. Potomac State scored four in the sixth to close out the sweep.

Lakeland will host its first conference doubleheader on Friday, March 29 against Clark State Community College beginning at 1 p.m. Clark State is currently 2-2 in OCCAC play.
