Lakeland explodes for 27 runs in beating Clark State to open doubleheader, 27-17

SANDUSKY, Ohio – Lakeland baseball put up plenty of runs in the opening game against Clark State Community College in a 27-17 victory to open the doubleheader Tuesday afternoon.

The Lakers lost the second game 9-6 to split the doubleheader. With the split, Lakeland's overall record moves to 3-21 and 2-6 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play. Clark State moved to 5-3 in OCCAC play.

Lakeland 27 – Clark State 17

Lakeland knocked 31 hits and scored 27 runs in a 27-17 victory over Clark State in the opening game of the doubleheader.

Max Von Gemmingen brought in four runs with a pair of doubles and a single to lead the way. Mike Zeuli, Riley Grieco, Matt Detering, Brendon Perez and Seth France each had three RBIs.

Kyle Espineli brought in two runs with a double and two singles while Zac Sabol and Cole Wajda each had an RBI in the win.

Bryan Dembie came on in relief and gave up four earned runs in 3 1-3 innings to pick up the win while striking out two.

Clark State 9 – Lakeland 6

Lakeland dug itself an early hole in the second game and got going in the seventh inning but it wasn't enough to come back as Clark State held on for the 9-6 victory to split the doubleheader.

Zeuli brought in two runs and hit a single while Osvoldo Balbuena also brought in two runs while hitting a triple. Tyler Knapp knocked a solo home run in the loss.

Lakeland will next host Mercyhurst North East on Friday, April 5 with the doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
