AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Lakeland baseball had a break out inning with 10 runs in the second game to beat Eastern Gateway Community College 12-7 after losing the first game 8-2 to earn a split Friday afternoon.

Following the split, Lakeland's overall record moves to 5-27 and 4-10 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference. Eastern Gateway moved to 8-7 in conference.

Eastern Gateway 8 – Lakeland 2

Eastern Gateway scored the first four runs and Lakeland was unable to recover in the first game in an 8-2 loss.

Brendon Perez and Osvoldo Balbuena each had an RBI in the loss. Collin Witherspoon hit a single and a double while Juan Guerrero hit a double.

After falling behind 4-0 in three innings, Lakeland cut the lead in half with two runs in the top of the fourth but was unable to score another run in the loss.

Lakeland 12 – Eastern Gateway 7

Lakeland trailed 5-1 after four innings but then exploded for 10 runs in the fifth to help break a six-game losing streak with a 12-7 victory.

Perez got the start on the mound and pitched five innings and only allowed three runs to pick up his first victory of the season. Not only did Perez get the win on the mound, he also knocked in four runs with a single and a double.

Max Von Gemmingen and Guerrero each had three RBIs and Tyler Knapp knocked in a pair of runs while Matt Detering also had a run batted in.

Lakeland will played two more games at Eastern Gateway on Saturday, April 13 beginning at 1 p.m.
