Lakeland scores eight in final two innings to beat Eastern Gateway in opener, 12-10

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Lakeland baseball scored eight runs in the final two innings to come from behind to beat Eastern Gateway Community College 12-10 in the opening game of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon.

The Lakers dropped the second game 5-4 to get a split of the doubleheader. Following the split, Lakeland's overall record moves to 6-28 and 5-11 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play. Eastern Gateway moved to 9-8 in conference play.

Lakeland 12 – Eastern Gateway 10

Lakeland trailed 9-4 heading into the eighth inning but scored eight runs in the final two innings to pull out a 12-10 victory to open the doubleheader against Eastern Gateway.

Cristobal Arenas came on in relief and pitched four innings and allowing only one unearned run to pick up the win. Calvin Andringa pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his first save of the season.

Lakeland hit four home runs in the win as Brendon Perez, Max Von Gemmingen, Zac Sabol and Cole Wadja each blasted a home run. Wajda brought in four runs while Von Gemmingen had three RBIs.

Mike Zeuli, Riley Grieco, Kyle Espineli, Perez and Sabol each had an RBI in the win.

Eastern Gateway 5 – Lakeland 4

Lakeland held a 4-2 lead in the middle of the sixth but was unable to hold on as Eastern Gateway came back for a 5-4 victory to split the doubleheader.

Juan Guerrero hit a home run and had two RBIs while Seth France hit a double and two singles and brought in one run.

Lakeland will host Garrett College on Tuesday, April 16 for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
