Lakers lose opener at Sinclair, 15-5

DAYTON, Ohio – Lakeland baseball was able to score first and held conference-leading Sinclair Community College at bay for a couple innings but ultimately lost 15-5 in six innings Friday afternoon.

With the loss, Lakeland falls to 6-29 overall and 5-12 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play. Sinclair improved to 16-1 in the OCCAC.

Riley Grieco hit a pair of singles and added an RBI while Cole Wajda hit a single, scored a run and knocked in another run.

Lakeland scored first in the opening inning and held that lead for two innings until Sinclair exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the third for an 8-1 lead.

The Lakers fought back with four in the top of the fourth to get within 8-5 but then Sinclair came back with seven unanswered runs to end the game early in the sixth.

Lakeland intended to play a doubleheader Friday but was unable to finish the second game. Lakeland and Sinclair will finish that second game on Sunday, April 21 beginning at 11 a.m. and then play their regularly scheduled doubleheader after.
