Lakers swept at Cuyahoga, 12-0 & 12-9

PARMA, Ohio – Lakeland baseball had a rough opening game but played much better in the second game but the Lakers lost both games to Cuyahoga Community College by the scores of 12-0 and 12-9 Saturday afternoon.

With the pair of losses, Lakeland falls to 6-34 overall and 5-17 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference play. Cuyahoga improved to 11-9 in conference.

Cuyahoga 12 – Lakeland 0

Lakeland couldn't get much offense in the first game of the doubleheader as Cuyahoga cruised to a 12-0 victory in five innings to open the pair.

Brendon Perez did get the lone hit with a double. Bryan Dembie did pitch well in relief in going 2 1-3 innings and allowing just two hits and one earned run.

Cuyahoga 12 – Lakeland 9

Lakeland hit the ball much better in the second game but could not completely overcome an early deficit in a 12-9 loss to suffer a sweep.

Mike Zeuli hit a home run and a single and brought in two runs. Osvoldo Balbuena also hit a home run and brought in a pair of runs. Perez, Cole Wajda and Tyler Knapp each had an RBI in the loss.

Lakeland trailed 10-4 after two innings but outscored Cuyahoga 5-2 in the final five innings to make the game close.

Lakeland will play two more at Cuyahoga on Sunday, April 28 beginning at 2 p.m.
