Baseball falls in opener

The Lakeland Lakers baseball team kicked off their season today losing two games to Surry CC by the scores of 10-0 and 14-2. This was a tough start to the season for the Lakers as they were playing a Surry team that that had already played 16 games - it was Lakeland's first time out of a gym. The experience to this point was evident as the Lakers record now stands at 0-2. Typical early season issues plagued the Lakers as they were unable to put a lot together offensively and also had some defensive miscues.

Mike Zeuli led the way for the Lakers as he went 2-3 with a double and an RBI in game two.  Additionally, he made a couple of very nice catches in centerfield today. Joel Connors also went 2-3 in game 2 and added an RBI.

Krause's Quips: "It was a difficult day in that it was our first time outside this year. Surry has already played several games and so are a couple of weeks ahead of our development at this point - which is to be expected. Despite that, there were some positives that we will look to build on. This is why we come on these trips early in the season - play some quality teams early that will help bring us into form more quickly. We'll regroup tonight and get back at it tomorrow."

Next up: The Lakers will play Surry CC again tomorrow in North Carolina. A single 9 is scheduled for noon.
