Lakeland baseball drops pair

The Lakeland baseball team arrived in South Carolina looking for a fresh start at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach. The day started off with a game against Lackawanna College. Unfortunately for the Lakers, they were shut down by the Falcons 13-4. Derrick Wolf picked up the loss for Lakeland as he allowed 7 runs (6 earned) in 4 innings. Offensively, the Lakers mustered 6 hits, two from Osvoldo Balbuenva (2B, 1B).  Tim Eppich went 1-2 and added 2 RBI's while Cole Wajda collected 2 hits (1B and 2B) in the loss. 

Game 2 had the Lakers facing the Illinois Valley Community College Eagles. The Eagles were able to come out with an 11-8 victory as Calvin Andringa picked up the loss for the Lakers. He allowed 7 runs (6 earned) in 3.1 innings. The Lakers were led by Seth Higham's 3 hits and 3 RBI's including his first home run of the year. Ian Jordan added 2 hits and 2 RBI's as he also homered for the Lakers. Brenden Hershberger added 2 hits (1B, 2B) and 1 RBI. Ryan Calvert threw threw 2 scoreless innings in the defeat. With the losses, the Lakers record drops to 0-5 on the season.

Krause's Quips"Today we came out and competed. We limited some of our early mistakes and made some positive strides. We battled today and gave ourselves a chance in game 2. Although we came up short today, we made some progress and will continue to put in the work to improve every day."

Next up: The Lakers continue at the Ripken Experience with a double header tomorrow beginning at 1:00pm. They have an off day scheduled on Thursday before playing another double header Friday.
