Lakers split with Knights

After a Saturday rainout, the Lakers baseball team played a doubleheader against the Surry Community College Knights. For the second time in three days the teams split the games as the Knights won game one 5-2 before the Lakers run-ruled the Knights 15-5 (6 innings) in the nightcap. In game 1, The Knights jumped to a 3-0 lead in the 3rd inning on two walks and two doubles. In the top of the 4th, Carson Fellows cut into the lead with a solo homer. However, the Knights scored two more in the bottom of the 4th when they strung together three consecutive hits. The Lakers scored their second run after Tyronne Barbosa doubled and later scored on a ground ball from Alex Ehinger. Raymond Kristosik took the loss for the Lakers as he allowed 5 runs over 6 innings while allowing 6 hits and striking out 6 batters.

Game 2 started off slowly for the Lakers as they fell into a quick 4-0 hole in the bottom of the 1st inning. The Knights were aided by 4 walks in the inning. Lakeland cut the lead in half in the top of the 2nd inning. Jason Shenkel got things going with a leadoff single. Later in the inning, Zach Fronk was hit by a pitch and then Philip Putnam and Johnathan Cook hit run-scoring singles. The Lakers took the lead for good in the top of the 3rd inning as Kyle Zaluski (1b) and Ben Sterritt (BB) scored on a Tristan DesLauriers double. Lakeland tacked on 4 more runes in the 5th inning highlighted by a Zaluski 3-run homer. Lakeland then blew it open in the top of the 6th by scoring 6 runs to put them in position for the run-rule. Kyle Zaluski went 3-3 and had 5 RBI's. Barbosa and Shenkel also finished with 2 hits each. Jack Atkins picked up the victory tossing 4 innings and allowing 5 runs on 4 hits while striking out 4 batters. Lenny Feckner relieved and struck out 4 batters in two innings.
