Lakers baseball drops pair to Chargers

The Lakeland men's baseball team traveled to Piqua, OH on Friday to play a pair of games against the Edison State Chargers. Unfortunately for the Lakers, they dropped both ends of the twinbill (8-2, 6-0) and their record falls to 2-6 (0-2). The Lakers managed just 3 hits in game one, but were still within striking distance as they trailed 3-2 after 5 innings. Adam Letson pitched a strong game going 5 innings and allowing 3 runs on 5 hits while striking out 4. Unfortunately, he took the loss as the Chargers exploded for 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th to take the win. Tyronne Barbosa, Jason Shenkel, and Malakai Roberts each singled. Carson Fellows and RJ Petties both scored for the Lakers. Lakeland struck out 12 times in the loss.

Game 2 was not much kinder to the visiting Lakers. They were able to manage 6 hits, but this time they were shutout. Tristan DesLauriers led the way going 2-3 for Lakeland. Kyle Zaluski and Philip Putnam both hit doubles while Collin Witherspoon and Alex Ehinger each singled. Lakeland struck out 9 times in game 2. Jack Atkins took the hard luck loss on the mound as he threw 6 innings and allowed 6 hits, 6 runs (3 earned), while striking out 5 batters.

Next Up: Tomorrow's games have been cancelled due to inclement weather. Lakeland is scheduled to host the Niagara County Thunderwolves on Tuesday (3/22) at 1:00 pm.
