Lakers Baseball sweeps Commodores

The Lakers baseball team traveled to Sports Force Park in Sandusky, Ohio on Tuesday to play a "home game" as the weather continues to wreck havoc on the schedule and their field. With wind chills that would drop temperatures into the 20's, the Lakers broke out the bats and made quick work of Lorain County. the Lakers won both games in 5 innings with the scores of 11-1 and 12-1. With the wins, Lakeland improves its record to 9-12 (6-5). In game one, the Lakers broke out the bats and collected 14 hits. Ben Sterritt led the way for the Lakers going 3-4 with 3 RBI's and scoring 2 runs. Sterritt also hit the walk-off hit in game one singling in the final runs in the 5th inning to force the mercy rule. Phillip Putnam, RJ Petties, Collin Witherspoon, and Seth Freeman each collected two hits for Lakeland. Lenny Feckner started and earned the victory as he pitched 4 innings of 1 run (0 earned) ball while striking out 2 batters. Adam Letson pitched the 5th inning to close out the game.    

The Lakers kept the bats rolling in game two as they collected 10 hits to help them to a 12-0 lead after 3 innings. Lakeland would never look back as they closed out the game. Tyler Kelly started and pitched 4 innings allowing 4 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 3 batters. Abe Bayus relieved and struck out 4 batters in his one inning of work. Seth Freeman led the way for Lakeland going 2-3 (double) while picking up 3 RBI's and scoring 2 runs. Kris Scandy also picked up 2 hits for the Lakers. Cody Hejduk was 1-2 (triple) while knocking in 4 RBI's. Caden Gopalakrishna hit a 3-run home run and Ben Sterritt finished the game 1-2 and picked up 2 RBI's. 

Next Up: The Lakers are scheduled to play a four-game series with the Bryant & Stratton Bobcats this weekend. The Lakers are scheduled to host the Bobcats on Friday at 1 pm. On Saturday, they travel to Solon Community Park with a 2 pm start time.
