The Lakeland baseball team traveled to Brunswick Community College today on the final day of their spring break trip and dropped a pair of games as they prepared to travel home. In game 1, the Dolphins took advantage of a hit batter and an error to score 7 runs in the home half of the 1st inning while taking a commanding lead and eventually defeating the Lakers by a score of 11-1. Unfortunately, the Lakers offense was quiet as they were no-hit. Lakeland scored their lone run in the 3rd inning as Addison Davis drew a leadoff walk. Miguel Fuentes was then hit by a pitch. Davis advanced to third on a deep fly ball to right field from Tony Hall before eventually scoring on a wild pitch. Ethan Duncan started and took the loss pitching 1 inning and allowing 7 runs (4 earned) on 4 hits while striking out 2 batters. Casen Smith relieved and threw 5 innings allowing 3 earned runs on 6 hits while striking out 5 batters.
In game 2, the Dolphins jumped to a 4-0 lead after 2 innings before the Lakers plated a run in the top of the 3rd inning. The Lakers run was scored following a 1 out walk from Miguel Fuentes. With 2 outs, Kaleb Corrin would rip an RBI-double to score Fuentes. The Dolphins answered with 3 runs in the home half before Lakeland responded with 3 more runs in the top of the 4th inning. James LaVigne started the inning with a leadoff single. Wilfredo Ortiz then singled before Josiah Cuesta hit an RBI-single. With 1 out, Nathan Hawkins would score Ortiz with an RBI-single. After a Miguel Fuentes walk, Tony Hall hit a run scoring fielder's choice to bring the Lakers back into the game trailing 7-4. Unfortunately, the Lakers were unable to halt the Dolphins offense as Brunswick scored 6 runs on 4 walks and an error in the home half of the 4th giving them a commanding lead and handing the Lakers an eventual 14-4 loss.
Wilfredo Ortiz paced the Lakers offense going 2-3 while Kaleb Corrin collected a hit (2B) and an RBI. Josiah Cuesta and Nathan Hawkins both recorded a hit and RBI while James LaVigne picked up a hit. Tony Hall chipped in an RBI in the Laker loss. Lucas Nichols started and pitched 3 innings allowing 7 runs (5 earned) on 5 hits.
