First Half Surge Lifts Jayhawks Over Lakers

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – The Lakeland Community College men's basketball team was in action today as they were defeated by Jamestown Community College, 82-69.

The game started with both teams getting a feel for each other.  The game remained a one possession game for the first 15 minutes of the half.  The Jayhawks pulled away late in the first half when they went on a 12-0 run that saw them take a 44-28 lead into the half. 

Jeramie Burge (Shaker Heights, Ohio / Shaker Heights) led the Lakers in scoring in the half as he had eight points on 8-8 shooting from the foul line.  Calvin Giles (Cleveland, Ohio) gave the Lakers a defensive presence as he ripped down six boards and recorded a block in the half.

Lakeland came out of the locker room ready to play as they opened the second half on an 8-0 run and cut the Jayhawks lead to single digits, (44-36).  The Lakers kept the score within single digits until the Jayhawks went on a 6-0 to stretch their lead to 59-46.  Lakeland continued to play hard but were unable to overcome the double-digit deficit and fell, 82-69.

The Lakers were led by Da'ron Falkner (Bedford, Ohio / Bedford) as he scored a game high 22 points, while also grabbing a nine rebounds in the game.  Alonzo Hamilton (Edison, New Jersey / Linden) also scored double-digit points as he scored 13 points and had four rebounds. Giles led the Lakers defense with 13 rebounds and pair of blocks in the game. 

Lakeland will be back in action Tuesday (Nov. 29) when they host Niagara Community College at 7:30 p.m.
