Men's basketball kicks off season with win
The Lakers men's basketball team opened their season with a convincing 95-79 win over the International Sports Academy on Saturday at Laker gym. Defense was the name of the game as the Lakers played aggressively throughout allowing them to control the contest. Lakeland had four players score in double figures in their balanced attack. Jordan McMillian led the Lakers overall with 21 points while Allen Sims scored 18 points on 6-7 shooting - including 2 for 3 from beyond the arc. Tyreke Johnson pitched in with 16 points while Chris Richardson added 15 in the victory. Offensively, Lakeland shot 39% from the field (13-33) in the first half before having an efficient 50% shooting (16-32) performance in the second half.  Lakeland shot 60% (12-20) from the free throw line on the night.

Bowe Bytes: "In general, I was pleased with our defensive effort tonight. We still have a long way to go, but it was a good start. Offensively, we had stretches where we played well but we were not as consistent as I would like as a whole.  It's a good start and we are looking forward to getting back to work so that we can continue to improve.  I've been pleased with our effort in practice so far - it was good to finally play."

Next up: The Lakers will hit the road on Tuesday (11/5) as they travel to Mercyhurst NE to take on the Saints.  Tip off time is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
