The Lakeland men's basketball team traveled to Clark State on Satuday and came away with a 95-90 victory over the Eagles from Clark State. With the win, the Lakers improve their record to  17-6 overall and 8-1 in conference play. With the loss, Clark State falls to 14-11 and 4-6 in league play. Lakeland started the game with good energy and rode good offensive play into a 15 point halftime lead at 55-40. The Lakers appeared to be in a good place and were looking to continue their strong play after the break.

The Eagles had different ideas to begin the second half. Clark State started by scoring 6 straight points. The teams alternated scoring opportunities the rest of the way and the Eagles continued to close the gap.  With 3 minutes to play, the lead had dwindled to just 3 points.  As he has all season, Tyreke Johnson stepped up and scored critical points down the stretch to assure the Lakers the win.

The Lakers had 4 players finish in double figures in scoring with Tyreke Johnson being the leader with 30 points. He also had 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Jordan Burge came off the bench to score 19 points while Tyshaun Howard and Allen Sims each scored 11 points. The key to the game was the Lakers strong 3-point shooting as they finished 9-20 from the arc.

Bowe's Bites: "Overall, this was a good road win. We did enough offensively to get the win; however, defensively, we could do more. Bryant & Stratton coming up will be a good challenge for us as they caught us the last time we played."

Next up: On Wednesday, Feb. 12, the Lakers will play host to the Bryant & Stratton Bobcats. This is a special 4:oo pm start. The Lakers will then be off for the weekend before traveling to Cuyahoga CC for a 7:30 pm tip on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
