Lakers down Commodores

The NJCAA's 5th-ranked Lakeland Lakers played host to the Lorain County Commodores on Saturday and coasted to a 91-57 victory. With the win, the Lakers improve to 10-0 (1-0) on the season. The Lakers were coming off a late road win against Niagara County on Thursday and were able to play a strong defensive game in garnering the victory. Lakeland was very active with their hands and drew a couple of charges in the game. With the defensive effort, the Lakers were able to get a quick lead and held a 16 point advantage at the half, 39-23. Lakeland continued to dominate in the second half as they coasted to the victory.

The Lakers played with a short bench again as they are overcoming some health issues and had all 8 players score. In fact, the balanced attack had 6 of the 8 players finish with double digits. Jaidon Lipscomb was the high scorer with 21 points. Kyle Jackson followed that up with 17 points while Noah Berry finished with 11 points. Landon Tillman, Blake Bluitt, and EJ Hubbert each added 10 points for the Lakers.

Hunter's Highlights:  "Offensively, we started a little sloppy, but we played our solid defense which caused them to turn the ball over a bit. Fortunately, we were able to use our size to our advantage. It will be good to get the extra bodies back soon so that we have some more depth. We are looking forward to the league play continuing next week and hopfully starting to get some consistent game reps with no gaps. Overall, a good team effort and win."

Next Up: The Lakers will play host to Tiffin University JV team on Tuesday (1/11) in a 7pm matchup. Lakeland will then host Owens Community College on Saturday in a 3pm tilt.
